Cloaking detection: compare what Googlebot sees with what visitors see
Cloaking shows Google different pages from the ones visitors get. From outside it’s nearly invisible, which is why we look from inside too.
The problem
The cleverest malware hides from you.
Many SEO infections show spam only to Googlebot, or redirect only visitors coming from Google or on mobile. You open the site and it looks perfect.
Tools that pretend to be Googlebot from outside are often recognised and fooled, because their IP isn’t Google’s.
How it works
Four views of the same page.
- 1
Visitor, from Google and mobile
We fetch the page as a regular visitor, as someone coming from a Google search and as a smartphone.
- 2
Verified Googlebot, from inside
The agent records a summary of what the site served to the real Googlebot, verified by reverse DNS: no IP tricks.
- 3
Comparison and opinion
Titles, links, redirects and text are compared. An optional AI opinion explains what’s going on and what to clean.
In detail
What comes to light.
- Titles and content that differ for Googlebot
- Conditional redirects to spam sites for visitors from Google or on mobile
- Hidden links and spam words on the page
- Unexpected Japanese or Chinese characters
- Optional AI opinion, with monthly credits included in the SEO shield
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do you know what Googlebot really sees?
From inside the site, the agent recognises visits from the real Googlebot by verifying its address with reverse DNS, and records a summary of the page served. We don’t store the full HTML.
Is the AI opinion required?
No, the checks work without it. The AI opinion is optional and uses the plan’s credits.
